Dann Hahn – Korean Natural Farming Educator
2025

In this photo, Dann holds a lauhala basket containing our first batch of IMO1 – Indigenous Microorganism 1. This is one of the first stages in the Korean Natural Farming (KNF) IMO process, which involves collecting naturally occurring beneficial microbes—such as fungi and bacteria—from a local environment, like a forest floor. Partially cooked rice is placed in a box outdoors to encourage microbial growth. Once a white, fuzzy layer of beneficial fungi appears, the material is harvested and mixed with brown sugar to create an initial culture. This culture becomes the foundation for subsequent KNF preparations. Earth medicines!
